Installation Instructions for Windows 8, 8.1 & 10 Earlier versions of Windows would allow unsigned drivers to be installed with just a simple warning message. Starting in Windows 8, the operating system started to skip the installation of the driver if it was unsigned and would do so with no warning message. When installing on Windows 8.x, no special steps are required for the 32-bit version of the operating system as it will allow unsigned drivers to be installed; so will Windows 7, 32-bit or 64-bit. To get Windows 8.x 64-bit to install, it is necessary to reboot the machine in a special startup mode. For either 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 10, the special startup mode is required to install unsigned drivers. The following steps describe how to do that restart. Windows 10 1) Click on Start (Window icon on taskbar in lower left corner). 2) Click on “Settings”. If not directly available, click on "All Apps", scroll to locate Settings and click to open. 3) Click on "Update & security" 4) Click on "Recovery" 5) Under the “Advanced Startup” option, click on “Restart Now” 6) At the “Choose an Option” screen, click on “Troubleshoot 7) At the Troubleshoot screen, click on “Advanced Options” 8) Under Advanced Options, click on “Startup Settings. Note: at this point there are no option selections to chose; the list just indicates what will be available after restart. 9) Click on “Restart” After the restart, a selection list will appear. The item of interest is item 7 which is “Disable driver signature enforcement” 10) Type the number matching the option to disable the driver enforcement on your system and the computer will reboot in a mode that will allow the driver to install. 11) Install the Echosounder software package which includes the channel module driver.
